Sony is inviting entries for its annual photography competition from amateur and pro photographers from all over the world.
There are separate competitions for amateurs and pros. Here I will talk about the amateur part only. The pros can read the details from the competition site (link below).
The basic info for amateurs are as follows
You can submit a maximum of 3 photos. The submitted photos can be spread in one or two or three categories mentioned below.

My friend Rajesh informed me about a photo contest being held by Yamaha. This photo contest is open for everybody (yes, even the ones who only have a mobile phone as a camera).
You just need to have a Yamaha bike or have a friend who has a Yamaha bike. I think all the photos need to have a Yamaha bike in them.

Yes, that is me taking a photo of a waterfall and here is the photo that I took from there.

I had been to a waterfall near Indore, called Seetalamata Falls and here are a few things that I learned for taking photos of waterfalls. All the photos that you see here were taken at that fall.
1. Be there at the right time
Photography is all about light and in outdoor photography, light is all about timing. The light is golden during the dawn and dusk. You will get better textures and colors during that time.
