Sony is inviting entries for its annual photography competition from amateur and pro photographers from all over the world.

There are separate competitions for amateurs and pros. Here I will talk about the amateur part only. The pros can read the details from the competition site (link below).

The basic info for amateurs are as follows

You can submit a maximum of 3 photos. The submitted photos can be spread in one or two or three categories mentioned below.

The categories in which you can submit your photos are

1. Architecture
2. Conceptual & Constructed
3. Documentary
4. Fashion
5. Landscape
6. Music
7. Natural History
8. Portraiture
9. Sport
10. Campaign Award

The deadline for submission is: 11.59:59pm (GMT) on Friday 4th December 2009.

Other rules can be read at
http://www.worldphotographyawards.org/am_rules.aspx

The prize for winners includes lot of cash, international exposure, all expense paid holiday to Cannes and lots of gifts from Sony.
There are prizes for each category winners and also an overall winner.
The details of the prizes are at
http://www.worldphotographyawards.org/am_prizes.aspx

I suggest that you first check out the submissions in the competition so far, so that you know the standard of photos that are submitted in this competition.
Also check out  the winners of 2009 and the winners of 2008 to learn more.

My observation of the winning photos from last two years is that most of the winning photos are in black and white and have a nostalgic feel to them.

You can read more info about this competition, judging process, awards, categories and also participate in it from the official site.

Time for you guys to start the submission and to share your photos with us in the comments below.

Don’t forget to subscribe either by RSS or Email to receive a notification about new competitions that I come to know about or some new photography tips that I learn.

Best of luck,
Gunjan
